Building hope together

We are guided by our love for God to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly. Our faith in Jesus motivates us to act on behalf of those in need.

How we started

After a series of earthquakes left hundreds of thousands of people in El Salvador without a safe home, a small group of friends from Alberta felt compelled to help. They flew down for one week and built three homes for three different families. While this number may seem small, it was what formed the vision and mission of Shelter today.

How we’ve grown

Building over 5,200 homes since 2002, our goal is to create lasting impact in families lives and develop holistic and long-term transformation in communities in El Salvador.

How you can help

Teams from North America partner with Shelter to share God’s love through providing homes to families in need. This gives new hope and a better future to families, while deeply impacting the lives of those who take part.

Work alongside the Shelter Team to bring hope to the people of El Salvador

Shelter employs a staff of over 50 Salvadorans who develop community leadership, select and prepare families for the build process, and make sure everything is organized for participating teams. The Shelter Team connects with each of the families, sharing the love of God and hope of Jesus through the whole process.
